Pont: The Life and Work of the great Punch artist, by Bernard Hollowood
The definitive collection of drawings by the best British cartoonist of the 1930s. Pont (Graham Laidler) died in 1940, aged 32, having created the British Character and much more besides. Unfortunately, the sublime illustrations are pretty indifferently reproduced, though the introductory essays were worth the price of admission. Which, in 1969, was 45/-, and cost me £4.99 from Oxfam.
